Rendezvous 05.05.02
Due to the unexpected turn of events, there is no Tool of the Week for Rendezvous. At least not by definition. I know...hard to believe, isn't it? Everyone acted halfway intelligent, no main female character (whose name I will not mention) slept around with a bucktooth serial killer, and the Action!Vaughn sequences still leave me amazed. Of course there was that one guy in the French nightclub that just opened fired with his gun on a crowd of partygoers, hoping to take out Syd and Will, but he hardly seems worth the effort. I think TotW should have a standard disclaimer for 'Big Dumb Thugs Who Carry Guns.' John Lennon even wrote a song about guys like this so we already know they're Tools.
Okay, so there was that one tiny scene between Vaughn and Weiss that just didn't make my Tangeray and tonic sit right. J.J., Dude, it was lame. Why would Weiss have to take a "bullet" for Vaughn? Isn't it a field agent's responsibility to protect the CIA asset? And wouldn't Vaughn have turned in a field report that would contradict Weiss's statement? Look, I saw Spy Games and Redford would never have to justify protecting Brad Pitt in a similar case scenario. So - if this scene was on the level then it's only purpose was to remind us - as though we need to be reminded - that Vaughn has a bad case of Spy Barbie lurve.
Like, whatever. Let's just move on to Almost Thirty Years, shall we? I'm so looking forward to another fix of Action!Vaughn.
