Run By Monkeys? -- ABC Promotional Department

By Souris, Vartan Ho #4
Posted April 26, 2002

The episodic promo pictures that have been posted have been of horrible quality and seldom have been things that newspapers would actually run. On the whole, they have shown mundane, meaningless, uninteresting things that don't usually pique interest in the episode.

Of course, that was better than NOT POSTING ANY EPISODIC PROMO PICTURES AT ALL! It's been a month since "Masquerade" pictures were released, and there has been nothing since then. Are you promoting `Alias' or not? Did your photographer run out of film? I hear they have it available at your local Target. You might want to stock up.

Where's the Vaughn? You are sadly underusing a major plus for the series. Either you are completely unaware of his large and growing fanbase, or you are inexplicably ignoring it. Why not take advantage of his popularity to draw viewers? Exploiting his appeal seems like a no-brainer, but maybe monkeys cannot grasp such finer points of promotion as Gorgeous Man With Killer Dimples = Good. For God's sake, use the man!

Seriously, do you want female viewers? All you have to do is play the clip of Vaughn saying "Yeah, I'll break into the Vatican with you" during promos, and we'd come running with our rapt attention, disposable income and 18-49 demographic allure. I mean, of course we like seeing Jennifer Garner kicking butt in groovy outfits, but there are some things that only a fine specimen of manhood like Michael Vartan can inspire, you know?

And what's with putting lines in promos that don't end up in the final episode that airs? That's annoying enough with movie trailers, but there's a lot more lag time there for editing, so it's a bit more understandable. But it's just sloppy and unforgivable with TV shows. Sydney's "I'm not cooperating with the CIA" in the "Snowman" promo seemed like a REALLY big deal – until it didn't actually appear in the episode! Get it together!

And please tell your friends at ABC family to stop showing that Sydney-Will kiss from "Parity" in their promos for the Friday-night re-airings. They're icking us out. The need for Vaughn footage still applies here, folks! I have seen neither hide nor dimple of him.

ABC, you are run by monkeys!!
