The Getaway
Episode Number: 2.12
Original Air Date: Dec 12, 2002
Summary:
Sloane contacts Jack by e-mail and tells him all about the implant the Alliance gave him. If he hadn't reported Jack, they would have killed him. He later confesses to murdering Briault and suggests to the Alliance that someone may be seeking revenge for that. The same someone that is blackmailing him. Jack goes to Irina - the only person he knows that is smart enough to help him - for advice. They sit in Irina's cell and eat take out food while strategizing.
Meanwhile, Syd and Dixon are on a mission in France to steal a gyroscope. Syd and Vaughn fight about Vaughn not telling her everything. He tells her he didn't tell her certain things because there would be no upside. She flips out a bit, eventually bringing up that Vaughn was seeing Alice again. Vaughn is taken aback and questions what they're really fighting about.
Weiss later gives vaughn advice: ask her out. The frustration is eating at them both. After almost dying, Weiss realizes that there are more important things in life than the CIA; Don't waste time. Vaughn thinks it's crazy and that there are too many risks to he and Sydney getting involved.
While Jack is looking to be cleared, he finds a tape of Ariana Kane with Briault. He goes back to SD-6, the only place he could find information about bank account opened by Kane, and is captured by a security agent.
Syd's countermission is to meet up with Vaughn and replace the gyroscope with a fake. Syd, still a bit miffed with Vaughn, meets up with him as planned, and Vaughn takes Weiss's advice. He asks her out to dinner. She at first is hesitant...the consequences if they were caught would be great. But she eventually agrees. While at dinner, they drink wine, tell stories, and basically gaze longingly at each other. The owner of the restaurant knows Vaughn and assumes a lot, giving Vaughn a key to a room upstairs. He and Sydney both consider taking that next step and finally agree to do it. Just as they're about to go, Weiss gets a call that Kane is onto Syd and Vaughn and is going after them. He calls Vaughn immediately, then all hell breaks loose. Kane's goons shoot up the restaurant and Vaughn and Syd take off. They're caught in an alleyway, but Vaughn uses quick thinking and a knife and frees them.
They feel stupid for trying to live a normal life, but Vaughn tells Syd not to worry. But because so much has happened, he tells Syd to give SD-6 the real gyroscope. It would look suspicious if she didn't. He'll meet up with her back in LA. Once there, he starts writing up a letter asking to be replaced as her handler. He feels that his feelings for her are causing him to be reckless. But Weiss talks him out of it.
At SD-6, Jack is freed by Sloane after he recieves the e-mail proving Kane has had a relationship with Briault, making her the prime suspect to be blackmailing Sloane for revenge. When Sydney hears this, she gives SD-6 the fake gyroscope, seeing as there is no risk anymore. She and Vaughn talk about everything and agree that they do good work, and separating would only hinder their efforts to bring down SD-6.
Elsewhere, Sloane is seen paying for a device that hides his actions from the Alliance, then he kills the man who gave it to him to erase any evidence that he was even there. As Jack is telling Sydney that Sloane has disappeared, we see Sloane walking down a beach to a small house. When the door opens, it's Emily. They planned the entire thing so that the Alliance wouldn't kill her.
