AJC Derby Day: Flemington, November 4
Just like the field of thoroughbreds, the celebrity stakes were contested by local favourites like Erica Baxter and Kate Waterhouse and a few internationals including Kate Bosworth and Michael Vartan. But the marquee place-to-be was won easily by Motorola, where all of the above partied rather than punted their way through the race day.

FORGET Travis Barker - Shanna Moakler has a new love. Moakler, who's in a nasty divorce from the Blink 182 drummer and her VH1 "Meet the Barkers" co-star, told partiers at the Skyy Vodka and Maxim Hot 100 party at Stone Rose in L.A. that she and her "Dancing With the Stars" partner, Jesse DeSoto, are dating. The show also paired up real-life lovers Mario Lopez and Karina Smirnoff, who also attended the party along with Rosario Dawson's ex, Jason Lewis (seen making out with a hot blonde) Michael Vartan and Macy Gray.

'Tis the Sassy Season
Thanks to Twagic and Cher Martin, Vartan Ho #113.
Skyy Vodka, amfAR and Maxim held their Hot Hollywood Party Saturday peeyem at the Stone Rose Lounge. Even though Maxim is a mag featuring tons o' hot femme flesh for dudes and other chicks to ogle, there was def some eye candy for the straight gals there in the form of Michael Vartan and the newly single Jason Lewis.
Michael's mysterious black eye he'd been sportin' last week had almost gone away, and he looked hot as evuh. I asked M.V. if he'd been naughty or nice this year. "Always nice," he answered. "Oh, I'm sorry, always naughty," he quickly corrected for the macho record.
Why that? Got some Jennifer Garner voodoo dolls at home, perhaps?
"I'm just a very bad person," he said, trying to keep a straight face and failing miserably. I don't believe Mikey, who's, like, sweet as Splenda, every time I run into him.

"Alias" star Michael Vartan showed up at "VH1's Big Night for a Big Cause" with a big thing of his own -- a black eye!
Camera-friendly Vartan strutted the red carpet with his shiner on display and a smile on his face. TMZ has learned that Michael's injury wasn't caused by a fist, but close enough; the star plays in a few pick-up hockey games and received an elbow to the eye. Ow.

Stars flock to Birdcage
By Kate Waterhouse
MELBOURNE sure knows how to put on a great show. All the action was at Flemington's Birdcage, with celebrities flocking from all over the globe.

It wasn't only the celebrities that were eye catching -- the Moet & Chandon marquee oozed French chic.

AAMI Victoria Derby Day - Flemington
By Fiona Byrne
Article thanks to Vikki!
SPRING RACING SPECIAL
THE EVENT:
FLEMINGTON put its best foot forward yesterday, turning on a perfect day for the running of the 152nd Victoria Derby. The place to be was the prestigious Birdcage enclosure, where the million-dollar marquees shone. The level of detail on the marquees created by Emirates, Moet and Chandon, Myer, Lexus, Motorola and Andrew McManus Presents was extraordinary. Emirates in particular took raceday corporate hospitality to new - perhaps never to be equalled - heights. Heavyweights from the world of sport, politics, entertainment, fashion and business mingled in the enclosure, while international guests Michael Vartan, Andrea Bowen and Kate Bosworth added extra colour and movement to the day.

From hot moves to
cold feet: Stars rate their own skills
Thanks to Musicat for the transcript and Pixie, Vartan Ho #3911, for the scan from the UK version!
In the October "In Style" (Scarlett Johansson cover) on p. 432, Michael is
quoted. The name of the page is "Fun Moment" and the topic is "From hot moves to
cold feet: Stars rate their own skills."
Our adorably self-effacing Michael is at the bottom of the page because they set
up the pictures around the rating scale (a thermometer) and MV, predictably, rated
himself the lowest: "Negative 7. I did a TV movie, and the director cut me out
of my own character's wedding dance."

Our Favorite Television Couples: For Better or For Worse
The Couple with Whom We (and Everyone Else We Know) Have the Least in Common
Thanks to bkdavey for the transcript!
There's nothing worse than getting stuck at a dinner party with peope who seem like they're from a different world. Vaughn and Sydney from "Alias" get our vote for the strange, foreign couple we'd like to avoid. Not only are they way hotter than we are, but Vaughn speaks fluent French, and Sydney could snap my husband's neck between her thighs. Also, they tend to cause a lot of collateral damage wherever they go, and our insurance policy definitely doesn't cover this sort of thing. Look, you have to worry about such things when you're married, especially when you have kids.
