Open door for stars

By Rosanne Michie

Thanks to Rosemary for the article!

Academy Award-winning actor Charlize Theron and comedian Billy Connolly are expected to attend this year's Australian Open in what is emerging as a bumper year for celebrity spotting at Melbourne Park.

We can also reveal Shannon Noll will sing the national anthem ahead of the men's final before a worldwide audience of up to 560 million.

Tennis tragic and Hollywood actor Michael Vartan, who starred opposite Jennifer Garner in Alias, is another definite starter. He is in Melbourne filming a movie alongside Radha Mitchell, who has accepted an invitation to be courtside and to be entertained in the Australian Open Club.

Party girl Paris Hilton, who had planned an Australian holiday, was a late scratching this week, no doubt to the relief of one-time associate Mark Philippoussis.

Theron will be in Melbourne for the premiere of her movie, North Country. Connolly will perform in the city in early February.

Nick Riewoldt and Stephanie McIntosh will lead the Aussie charge, which could be interesting, as the cast of Kath and Kim have also accepted. Actor Gina Riley recently mocked the frock McIntosh wore to last year's Logies.

Expect to see Australian Idol Kate DeAraugo, director Baz Luhrmann, English TV chef Rick Stein and a full book of local talent.
