Having a ball in their court

By Luke Dennehy and Rachelle Unreich

Thanks to Rosemary for the article!

THE tennis is nearly over and now is the time to get ready for a very big Commonwealth Games.

Every year there are more and more parties at the tennis, and this year was no different.

On Wednesday night official timekeeper Rado held a swish cocktail party with top 20 players, and the next big things of women's tennis, Nicole Vaidisova and Ana Ivanovic turned up.

The girls met a couple of Melbourne's more high-profile male models, including Dave Witko, who is back after a stint in New York.

The Great Outdoors' Laura Csortan was down from Sydney for the occasion, but flew back that night.

As usual the tennis attracted some big names this year, the biggest being Charlize Theron, Billy Connolly and Alias star Michael Vartan. Locals Danny Raco, Stephanie McIntosh and Molly Meldrum were there, but no sign of Kylie Minogue, who was rumoured to be attending.

One of the best stories to come out of the Open this year was the performance of Fabrice Santoro.

Making the quarter-finals at 33 for the first time, he was a firm fan favourite.

Fabrice was in Melbourne with fiancee Chrislaure and young daughter Djenae.
