I Spy Some Alias Scoop! Plus, the Latest on Prison Break, One Tree Hill and a Beauty-ful New Couple
by Kristin Veitch
SPOILERS!
This week's column just so happens to fall on my birthday, and all I want is one very simple gift: I want my Alias back. Like, now.
Call me impatient. Call me demanding and immature. I don't care. It's my Super Sweet 16 party, and I'll cry if I want to--'cause all this waiting around is just too hard to take.
Mind you, I'm not the only one who's antsy. My inbox has been flooded this week with concerned letters from fellow Aliasaholics desperately seeking info on when our beloved, underappreciated show will return and for how long. So, before we move on to One Tree Hill, CSI: New York, Beauty and the Geek and Prison Break, whaddya say we tackle a few rumors with some classified intel?
Rumor #1: Alias isn't getting a full season.
Verdict: True
Alias' original 22-episode order for this season was trimmed to 17. Nine have already aired. And according to the show's rep, ABC is planning to air eight more. However, as you know, ABC still hasn't set a return date, and given that uncertainty, I'm told the writers are concerned they might not get all eight episodes. So, they've worked out a plan B in case they need to end the storylines more quickly. (You may remember, JJ Abrams went through a somewhat similar experience with Felicity. He wrapped up the storylines and then found out he was getting five more episodes from the WB.) So, bottom line, the show will return. It's in production right now; however, we can't be 100 percent certain the show will receive all eight final episodes until its return date is announced.
Rumor #2: Vaughn is alive.
Verdict: True. False. Maybe...
You didn't think I'd just come right out and spoil that one for you, did ya? JJ would sick Sark on my ass faster than you can say Rimbaldi (hmmm...on second thought, maybe I will spill). Vaughn could be a ghost. He could be alive. He could be a memory. All I know is that we definitely get our M.V. fill before the season ends, as does Sydney. Although Michael Vartan was originally scheduled to return to the set this week, his start date has been pushed back to early March. The current plan is for him to appear in episodes 14 to 17 (assuming they all happen), and I'm told he could pop in a wee bit earlier.
Rumor #3: Bradley Cooper and Lena Olin are coming back.
Verdict: True
Sources tell me Lena does return, and we get some jaw-droppingly good twists and turns from SpyMommy and SpyDaddy. And assuming they go through with what I've heard, Bradley's storyline in the 100th episode should be insane--right up there with a certain Super Bowl episode (hint: not Alias').
Rumor #4: Everyone survives.
Verdict: False
I'm hearing a longtime character dies before the series ends. Arrrgh!!
Rumor #5: JJ's new series is worth watching.
Verdict: True
At least it certainly looks that way. We reporter types have not yet been sent the reworked pilot for ABC's What About Brian, with our Everwood pal Sarah Lancaster, but based on the script and the initial version of the show, I can tell you it looks completely worthy of your obsession. Anyone surprised?
Brian premieres Apr. 2. And Alias will, will come back no later than that--unless ABC wants to make a birthday girl cry.
-------------------------------
So, thank you ABC, for making my birthday wises come true ...
I heard last night from a reliable source (and confirmed with another this a.m.) that ...
ALIAS IS COMING BACK IN APRIL FOR 8 FINAL HOURS ON WEDNESDAY NIGHTS AT 8 PM!
April 19th is the day of the midseason premiere, I believe.
I'm told that there will be a two-hour midseason premiere, then four episodes, then a 2-hour finale in May.
Yippee Kai Yay!
All this is expected to be announced on Monday.
Hope you're all having a great weekend. I know I am now.
