You've Got Male

5 things Michael Vartan wants you to know

By Joanna Philbin

He says he's just an "average guy." But those of us who watch him play dreamy Agent Vaughn on Alias know better. Those piercing eyes, that cleft chin, and the way he worships CIA spy Syd all make Michael Vartan the least average guy on TV. Apparently, costar/girlfriend Jennifer Garner thinks so, too. The two may be the cutest couple in Hollywood.

"I think all of us fell for Jennifer when we met her."

1. His relationship with Jennifer Garner is private.
"I happen to be dating someone with whom I'm very close friends. We respect each other. I know, you want more. You can ask all you want, but I won't answer!"

2. But he can't help gushing about her a little.
"She's just such a sweet girl and so talented. People have told us that we have great chemistry on-screen, but I challenge any actor not to have chemistry with her. It's not exclusive to me: She's a chemistry machine!"

3. You're not the only one confused by the plot of Alias.
"Luckily, we have a script, so we can look back and go, 'He's working for who?' But that's one of the things I like about the show. You have to think a little bit to watch it."

4. The special thing he looks for in a woman.
"Kindness is what attracts me the most. I just like someone who's down-to-earth and sweet and has a good sense of humor."

5. Men are more vulnerable than you think.
"I wish that women knew how incredibly hard it is to go up to them, introduce yourself, and ask them out. And I wish that when they do dis a guy, they would be a little more gentle and understanding about it."
