HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - This week's (Lugia note: July 9th to be exact) premiere of Disney's "Reign of Fire" was a Dark Ages event in many respects.
A 600-watt fuse blew two minutes before the curtain was supposed to go up at Westwood's Village, leaving stars Christian Bale, Izabella Scorupco, Scott James Moutter, helmer Rob Bowman and guests in the dark.
After a 45-minute wait, the futuristic dragon saga lit up the screen, allowing audience members to take in a furious fist fight between Bale and absent star Matthew McConaughey.
"We both said we were sick of seeing movies where the fights are clean and tidy, so we made it messy," said Bale, who absorbed a real head butt that left him with "a welt on my forehead that made me look like the Elephant Man for a couple of days."
Illuminating the Napa Valley Grill after-party were guests Tia Carrere, Bradley Cooper, David Duchovny, David Krumholtz, Robert Patrick and John Ritter.
