J.J. on Chicago radio
Thanks to OLucy at TWoP. :)
JJ Abrams was interviewed on a radio morning show here in Chicago, and had the following to say:
1. Lena Olin might be the best thing on TV this season
2. Most people love the action/costumes, but he really likes the story of a dysfunctional family and the romantic story of a woman
who is in love with her handler but can't have a relationship with him because of their jobs
3. People who haven't seen the show before can watch the first ep
of S2 and still "get it"
4. The stories will be less complex without being dumbed down. It will be easier to understand "what's at stake" in each story, and there will still be mystery and action and good spy stories without getting so caught up in the 007 technical stuff
5. He raved about how great JG is, so unassuming, and that she does so many of her own stunts. He said that in the last year she's
turned into quite the stuntwoman. Terrified about the stunt before she does
it, then wants to get in there and do it again after she does it the
first time. He cited the parachuting example. One of the hosts
brought up the car under water scene, and he said she was scared
for that too, then was all gung ho. He said no one was in the car when
it went off the wharf, it was empty. Didn't get into the technical
aspects of how they shot the scene, except that it was in a huge
water tank at the studio.
6. They talked a little bit -- very little -- about Ken Olin,
because he's a local boy.
7. They're having a big cast party on Sunday to celebrate the first ep of S2.
That is all. Over and out.
Don't worry, [name removed], that (about the less-complex stories)
was the least defined part of the radio interview. He started running
some ideas together and it wasn't real clear where he intended to
draw the line. He knows the value of the spy stories, so I don't
think they'll be compromised. Maybe they'll just make our heads hurt
a little less.
