'Alias' star appears in campaign ad for high school friend
CHARLESTON -- A first-time candidate for the West Virginia House of Delegates is getting help from a famous friend, ''Alias'' star Jennifer Garner.
Garner and Corey Palumbo, a Democrat running in the 30th District, were classmates at George Washington High School, where they graduated in 1990.
Garner offered to help Palumbo's campaign while she was in Charleston last summer visiting her family.
''We didn't really know what she could do,'' said Palumbo, a 30-year-old lawyer.
Garner wanted to film a television ad, but with her hectic schedule could not come back to Charleston.
''She just filmed a little piece in California and sent it back to us,'' Palumbo said.
''If I were there I would vote for Corey four times,'' Garner said in a telephone interview with The Charleston Gazette this week. ''I'd do anything I could to help him.
''I think that local government is so important. It's so rare that you actually know someone who's running for office, and can actually believe in what they're doing.''
Palumbo said he hopes to start airing the ad late next week, and he plans to show it during Garner's show.
In ABC's ''Alias,'' Garner plays a CIA agent known for her martial arts skills and sexy costumes.
''She was very, very nice to help us out,'' he said. ''She's so busy. She works, like, 18 hours a day. It must have been really hard for her to work this out.''
