Hidden Gems

Sydney Bristow

Unless you happen to own a few extra TVs, VCRs and every digital recording device under the sun, you couldn't possibly have caught every must-see show on the tube this season. Tuesdays alone were enough to drive a couch potato stark ravin' mad. So, in the interest of getting you tuned in to those shows you've been missing out on, we're offering our roundup of the season's best-kept secrets.

And as if that weren't enough to keep you glued to the tube, there are also tons of new E! shows to cure your rerun blues this summer: Sarah Michelle Gellar gets Revealed, Rank takes on the Sexiest Movie Moments, and E! looks at Charles, Di and beyond in Royalty A-Z.

Alias (ABC)
Airs: Sunday, 9 p.m.

Why You Might Have Missed It: It was pitted against The X-Files, and ABC made some not so shrewd scheduling decisions with the show, like airing one of the best, first-run episodes opposite the Golden Globes, in which series star Jennifer Garner nabbed a statue.

Why You Shouldn't Miss It This Summer: It has something for everyone: action, drama, angst, romance and--thanks to some terrific writing--an endless supply of cliffhangers and twists that will leave you wanting more. The idea for the show was sparked when creator JJ Abrams, who also created Felicity, imagined what it might be like if a fickle college student were really a CIA spy. The result was Sydney Bristow (Garner), a tough coed with a big secret: she's a double agent, working to bring down a rogue group of former CIA agents who are out for world domination. In between missions to far-off locales, Syd also tries to uncover layer after layer of family secrets; mend her relationship with estranged father Jack (Victor Garber), also a double agent; have a normal social life with her friends; and nurse the somethin'-somethin' she has going on with her CIA handler (Michael Vartan).

Best Episode: Again, the pilot. It's a whirlwind of action that accurately predicts just how good--and addictive--the series gets.
