Girlfriend of the Day
Jennifer Garner Date of birth:
April 17, 1972
Hometown:
Charleston, West Virginia
Vital stats:
5'8"
Mountain momma:
“I’m all about growing up in West Virginia. It’s the most beautiful place in the world. It’s such an isolated community where you’re not affected by cities and trends. I felt very protected and loved by the entire community and I still do. I still go home and I go to the men’s shop where I worked and I go to my church where I grew up and my friend’s parents still like my parents. It’s the most important thing in my life that I grew up there.”
Where you’ve seen her:
Before she became America’s favorite badass CIA operative Sydney Bristow on Alias, Jennifer appeared in a recurring guest role on Felicity and alongside Jennifer Love Hewitt in the short-lived Party of Five spin-off Time of Your Life. She’s also on the big screen right now in the Leo DiCaprio–Tom Hanks action film Catch Me If You Can.
Character study:
“My favorite book was Harriet the Spy. I probably read it 10 times. I talked my mom into buying me a little notebook like Harriet the Spy had. And I’d write down these things about my neighbors.”
Just for kicks:
“Most of [the action shots on Alias] is me, but some of the really beautiful kicks are definitely the stuntwoman’s. I did them—she just did them like a gold medalist. She actually is a gold medalist from the Seoul Olympics in martial arts.”
Drama club:
On Felicity, Jennifer played the troublemaking ex (Hannah) of her real-life future husband Scott (Noel), driving a wedge between the characters Noel and Felicity. “I’m hated. I’m hated on the Internet; I’m hated on the streets. People constantly come up to me and say, ‘I hate Hannah.’ And I say, ‘Well, I married him, so I don’t know what else to tell you.’ At first I took it personally. Then I was like, Jennifer, get over yourself.”
