ABC puts ''Alias'' in Super Bowl Shuffle

Jennifer Garner's spy drama will get the coveted post-Super Bowl slot, while established hit ''The Practice'' moves to a competitive Monday space

By Gary Susman

ABC hopes everybody loves ''The Practice'' more than they love Raymond. In a primetime shakeup, the network announced yesterday that it is moving the veteran Sunday night hit to Mondays at 9, where it will compete against CBS' top comedy ''Everybody Loves Raymond,'' as well as Fox's new ''Bachelor''-esque reality show ''Joe Millionaire.'' Sticking around on Sunday will be ''Alias,'' with ABC giving the acclaimed-but-struggling spy drama, which ABC will boost by giving it the coveted post-Super Bowl slot after it airs the game on Jan. 26.

Replacing ''Practice'' on Sundays will be the new Dick Wolf-produced version of ''Dragnet,'' starring Ed O'Neill as just-the-facts-ma'am detective Joe Friday. Following ''Practice'' on Mondays will be another new series, ''Miracles,'' about spiritual-minded investigators of mysterious phenomena. (Think of it as ''Touched by an X-File.'')

Will football fans unfamiliar with ''Alias'' will be able to find an entry point into the show's byzantine intrigue? ABC assures that the post-game episode won't be too complicated. ''J. J. [Abrams, the program's creator] has streamlined the storyline,'' ABC spokesman Kevin Brockman told the New York Times. ''It's going to be more directly about good vs. evil.'' No word on whether good or evil triumphs, but the winner will get the Vince Lombardi trophy, a nice ring, and a trip to Disney World.
