'Buffy,' 'Friends' and 'Scrubs' Lead Zap2it's Emmy Shadow Poll Nominations

Jennifer Garner

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - The polls are closed and over 15,000 entries in 11 categories have been sifted through, leaving us with the nominees for Zap2it's second annual Emmy Shadow Poll.

Of course, some nominations had to be thrown out. Despite being warned that "The Sopranos" were not eligible this year, since no original episodes aired during the 2001-02 season, quite a few people nominated the show and its actors anyway. A bunch of people also missed the memo that the cast of "Friends" is up for the Lead rather than Supporting category this year, and the "Gilmore Girls" is now considered a comedy, not a drama.

However, we still managed to have a plethora of eligible nominees on our hands. Leading the charge is UPN's drama "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and the NBC comedy "Friends" with six nominations apiece. NBC's "Scrubs" was close behind with five.

Oddly enough, even though last year several people jumped the gun in nominating HBO's "Six Feet Under" despite its ineligibility (due to having premiered in June 2001, outside the regular season), the Alan Ball drama only managed to snag one nomination now that it is a real contender. Stars Peter Krause and Rachel Griffiths did come awful close to making the grade though, as did "24's" Dennis Haysbert in the Supporting Actor category.

Favorites CBS' "CSI," NBC's "Fraiser" and ABC's cancelled "Once and Again" also only mustered up one nomination as well. Slightly better was HBO's "Sex and the City," which came through with two, down from last year's four.

Completely missing from the mix is FOX's "Malcolm in the Middle" which scored three nominations last year. However, star Jane Kaczmarek's husband Bradley Whitford (who won the real Emmy last year) did get another nod from Zap2it readers.

Also gone from the mix are old faves "Ally McBeal," "The Practice" and "The X-Files"

Starting on Thursday, July 18, when the official Emmy nomination announcement is made, readers can vote in the first of the 11 featured categories on who should win and who will win. Each week following, users can vote in the next category as well as the one from the week before. Remember, only one vote per category per user will be counted. All the winners will be announced on Monday, Sept. 23, following "The 54th Annual Emmy Awards" telecast.
