TV Gal Puts Out a Call for Nominees

by Amy Amatangelo

Vaughn & Sydney

My, my, my, we are a negative little bunch.

Thanks to all of you who e-mailed your suggestions for the categories for the 2002 Amy Awards. It was quite the learning experience. There were so many more "worst" category suggestions than "best" category suggestions. Shocking, don't you think? Why I'm simply appalled by the venom coursing through your remote-control hand (if I were Mary Louise Parker, I'd get out of town). Because, people, we here at TV Gal, are all about love and being supportive of television.

I'm kidding.

We all know it's so much more fun to accentuate the negative when it comes to television awards. Plus, I love the categories you all came up with.

[...]

I went through hundreds of e-mails to come up with the most popular suggestions and expanded the number of possible categories to 13. I also used your very funny category titles when possible.

Here are the 2002 Amy Awards Categories:

1. That Line Kicked Butt, aka Best Quote of the Year
2. I Want That Hour (or Half-hour) of My Life Back, aka Worst Episode of the Season
3. Episode Most Worthy of an Immediate Rewind, aka Best Episode of the Season
4. This Couple Made Me Want to Claw My Own Eyes Out, aka Worst Television Couple
5. Best Television Couple (note: this category can include couples that are together and couples that should be together)
6. Best Baddie, aka Best Villain
7. Call the Voodoo Doctor, I Want to Resurrect __________, aka Character Who Will Be Missed Most (note: this category can include characters who died, left a series, or were on a cancelled series)
8. Character You Wish Had Been Killed Off, aka Most Annoying Character (note: this category can include reality show contestants)
9. Most Deserving to Be Unemployed, aka Worst Actor
10. Worst Storyline of the Season
11. Best Storyline of the Season
12. Show You are Embarrassed to Admit You Watch, aka Best Guilty Pleasure
13. If I Had to Be Quarantined with One Television Character, I Would Pick, aka Best Television Character

Now remember the 2002 Amy Awards cover the entire television season (both network and cable) from September 2001 to May 2002. So think back -- waaaay back -- and e-mail me your nominations at amytvgal@zap2it.com. Please list the category and then your suggestion for nominees in your e-mail and be as specific as possible. I'll announce your nominees next Monday, June 17.

I told you last week that Lena Olin will be playing The Mom next season on "Alias," but did you hear that a line of "Alias" action figures is set to debut this fall? Here's hoping they have a Vaughn doll. Then he can hang out in my room with JC Chasez, Justin Timberlake, Dylan McKay, Brandon Walsh and Spike. Maybe JC can ask Spike how he feels about this whole vampire with a soul business. Sydney takes a lie detector test in this week's repeat (Sunday, ABC, 9 p.m.).
