Garner spies on 'Alias' for Abrams, ABC
By Nellie Andreeva
Jennifer Garner ("Dude, Where's My Car?") has been cast as the lead in "Alias," the new drama project for ABC from "Felicity" co-creator and executive producer J.J. Abrams.
She will play a young woman who is a spy, living a life that involves a dangerous job while desperately trying to be normal. In addition to focusing on her, the story will center on her estranged father and her boyfriend, from whom she has to keep her double life a secret.
Abrams first met Garner three years ago when she guest-starred on the WB Network's "Felicity."
"I've always thought she was an wonderful actress and was looking forward to working with her again," Abrams said.
Abrams added that he hasn't been this excited about a project in a long time. As with "Felicity," the challenge was finding the right person for the title role, and he believes he found her in Garner.
"I feel like the lightning has struck again, and we found an actress who is beautiful and hysterically funny and able to be vulnerable yet incredibly strong and kick ass, which the character is," he said.
The show will be very different from "Felicity" and will be much more diverse in terms of the age and the ethnicity of the cast, Abrams said.
Garner's TV series experience includes "Time of Your Life" and "Significant Others." She also was featured in the CBS miniseries "Aftershock: Earthquake in New York."
On the big screen, she will next be seen in the Walt Disney Co.'s epic "Pearl Harbor."
Garner is repped by Endeavor and the Firm's Alyssa Vradenburg.
