Greg Grunberg
|
Eric Weiss
|
|
|
|
The Basics: Born July 11, 1966 in Los Angeles, Greg Grunberg has been
around the acting industry has whole life. He counts among his famous friends
J.J. Abrams (creator of "Felicity" and "Alias") and Akiva Goldsman, Oscar-winning
screenwriter of A Beautiful Mind. He attended San Diego State University, where he majored in
business, minored in creative writing, and acted in his spare time.
|
The Basics: As Vaughn's CIA partner, Weiss gets to be in on both the
action and the advice. He accompanies Vaughn and Syd on missions and is always
there to offer counsel to his co-workers. Before a gunshot wound to the neck
incapacitated him for several months, he was dead-set against Vaughn and
Syd's relationship evolving into something he felt would be dangerous for their
lives and his job security. But facing death has turned him on to the
Carpe Diem philosophy, as he likes to say to anyone who'll listen (and some
who won't).
|
|
Personal: Grunberg and his wife Elizabeth have two sons.
|
Personal: One of the continuing mysteries of "Alias" is why this guy
can't get a girl to look twice at him. He's certainly tried, but the disinterest
is so great that he sometimes has to consider Vaughn his most significant other.
|
|
Work History: Grunberg has appeared in the films Hollow Man
and Austin Powers in Goldmember. He was a regular on "Felicity" and
has guest-starred on shows such as "NYPD Blue" and "Murphy Brown."
Grunberg also has played drums in a band called Big Boy Combo (named
after his favorite meal at Big Boy).
|
Work History: Recruited in November 1997 to the CIA, Weiss' previous
education and training was as an economics major. His gunshot epiphany
kept him out of the field (and offscreen) for far too long, but now he's
returned to the Ops Center a new man.
|
|
Trivia: Grunberg has done lots of TV commercials, including a Rolaids ad
and a Nicorette ad (although he says he's never smoked aside from in acting jobs).
One of Grunberg's co-stars in "Hollow Man" was Joey Slotnick (who played his nemesis
on "Alias"), and they amused themselves during downtime by riding bikes around the lot.
He originally read for the part of Dixon on "Alias," but he wasn't right for it, so
he and J.J. created the part of Weiss to get him on the show. The first name Eric is significant because Eric Weiss is Harry Houdini's
real name.
|
Trivia: Weiss knows just where to go to drown the sorrows that stem
from breakups, bad days, and acquiring the knowledge that your sublimated crush's
mom killed your dad. He's a pro at walking the dog (both when dog-sitting
for Donovan and playing with a yo-yo). He's got excellent facility with a quip (especially
when directed against an annoying co-worker), and his slightly bitter
barbs about being dateless and drawerless are always entertaining.
We would give him a drawer.
