Jennifer Garner
|
Sydney Bristow
|
|
|
|
The Basics: Born April 17, 1972 in Houston, Texas, Jennifer Garner was raised in Charleston, West Virginia, and she says
her childhood there has made her who she is today. She looks back on her conservative upbringing with affection, although what she
calls the "Garner Girl aesthetic" (unpierced ears, no nail polish, straight hair) in no way prepared her for her outrageous
"Alias" wardrobe. Garner is currently trying to combine her super-charged TV and film persona with the relatively quiet lifestyle she enjoyed in
Charleston: "I would love for us to go to West Virginia (and film)," she says. "I am always asking for that,
but I don't think that is going to happen. It is pretty hard to get the crew through the mountains."
|
The Basics: As a member of one of the most dysfunctional families ever engineered by major
intelligence agencies, Sydney Bristow alternately battles bad guys and personal demons as she seeks to
bring down Arvin Sloane. Her parents' interesting history (Mom's a possibly-reformed
assassin who faked her death for upwards of 20 years; Dad's a former absentee parent
who put her in Spy Kid school) keeps her on emotional alert at all times.
Since the fall of the Alliance and the end of SD-6, Sydney's kept busy tracking
the elusive Sloane and romancing Vaughn at the expense of pasta dinners. Now she
seems to have been comatose for two years. Sydney von Bulow or just another
pawn in Sloane's game? Only time will tell.

Personal: Garner attended Denison University in Ohio, where she first fell in love with acting.
She was married to "Felicity" star Scott Foley from 2000-2003 and is currently
single.
|
Personal: After her physician fiancé Danny was killed on Sloane's
orders, Sydney's love life was limited to an unfortunate fling with buck-toothed
assassin Noah Hicks, who she subsequently killed. She and Vaughn finally
cut the tension and hooked up once they realized they wouldn't be killed for it.
(Although, being watched by your father and co-workers on Clone Candid Camera
might make you want to die, mightn't it?)

Work History: Garner has co-starred in two short-lived television series for "Party of Five" creators Chris
Keyser and Amy Lippman: 1998's "Significant Others," with Scott Bairstow, and 1999's "Time of Your Life," with
Jennifer Love Hewitt. Her guest spot as Noel's ex-girlfriend on "Felicity" earned her the wrath of Felicity/Noel fans,
but also introduced her to J.J. Abrams, who cast her in "Alias." She has also
appeared in the films Dude, Where's My Car? and Pearl Harbor, catching
her big-screen break as Elektra in Daredevil. A sequel focusing on her
character is underway, and she is also filming the comedy 13 Going on 30.
|
Work History: Searching for a place where she could finally fit, college-age Sydney accepted an offer from
SD-6, which she thought was the CIA, in December 1994. Her physical prowess and mastery of multiple languages
enabled her to quickly ascend to field agent status. After learning that SD-6 was not affiliated with the
CIA in September 2001, she became a double agent alongside her father. Now that
SD-6 is no more, she's a full-time CIA agent. As for her cover story, sometimes
she works for Credit Dauphine, sometimes she works for the State Department.
It depends on the company she's keeping.

Trivia: Garner says if she had to pick a TV character she idolized as a youth, it would be
Donny Osmond. In keeping with her love of cooking and decorating, one of her favorite current TV personalities is
Martha Stewart, who Garner keeps programmed into her TiVO because she finds watching her cook soothing.
|
Trivia: Always keeps a fire going (even in the sunny L.A. springtime) for destruction of those pesky
photos of duplicitous family members. Photos of more trustworthy relatives get the
spot of honor--in the junk drawer. Sydney possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of both
sorority mannerisms and Wal-Mart, and she's so smart that she apparently never had to
go to class to complete grad school. And while many of us envy her often-gorgeous
wardrobe and even more gorgeous boyfriend, even she can't pull off a purple punk wig.
