Merrin Dungey
|
Francie Calfo
|
|
|
|
The Basics: Born August 6, 1971 Dungey was a born performer who loved to
dance, play music, and ice-skate. Her acting career took off when she enrolled at UCLA.
Since graduating in 1993, she has been acting professionally and doing stand-up comedy.
Dungey relished becoming Evil Francie both because she got to start intense
training and because it meant she could step out of the kitchen once in a
while. She said she was starting to feel like Florida from "Good Times,"
and all her plot points seemed to revolve around bouillabaisse.
|
The Basics: Francie was a grad student at the University of California,
and Sydney's best friend and confidante (about non-spy matters, at least).
She had recently opened her own restaurant, which had turned a profit within
the first six months. Everything was falling into place for Francie until she
was murdered by the evil clone she never knew she had.
|
|
Personal: Merrin's father works in the energy and conservation industry in California.
Her older sister Channing is also in show business, as a production executive.
She once worked as Steven Seagal's story editor and worked with Warner Brothers in shepherding the movie
"Twister" to the screen.
|
Personal: After breaking up with her two-timing fiancé Charlie, Francie
remained single until her best couch-potato buds relationship with Will
blossomed into something more. We don't need to tell you why that
relationship was doomed.
|
|
Work History: After a successful one-woman show, "Black Like Who?" for the HBO
Comedy Workspace, Dungey saw her opportunities increasing and won guest spots on several
high-profile television shows. She has appeared on "Murphy Brown," "Seinfeld," "Friends,"
and "ER." She currently juggles her "Alias" workload with recurring roles on two current TV series: "The King of Queens" and
"Malcolm in the Middle."
|
Work History: Like Sydney, Francie did the juggling of work and grad school
thing, and until her restaurant opened she worked in the professional catering and party planning industry.
|
|
Trivia: In April and May of 2001, she worked with fellow UCLA grad and future co-star
Kevin Weisman (Marshall) on a production of Arthur Schnitzler's play "Anatol" at the alumni-founded
Buffalo Nights Theatre Company. The play was a Los Angeles Times "Best Bet." As the youngest
person ever to win the UCLA Annual Acting Award, Dungey was a sophomore theater major who beat out
juniors and seniors as well as graduate students for the honor. The presenter of the award was none
other than Denzel Washington.
|
Trivia: Francie knew who to trust when it came to the proper color
of restaurant paint, but frankly the question seems unnecessary given that
she chose the color of every outfit in her wardrobe. Her cluelessness
about Sydney's double life frequently precluded her from getting a substantial
plotline. Experimental hairstyles always kept us guessing. The most important
trivia of all, however: Francie hates coffee ice cream. Uh oh...
|
Allison Doren (a.k.a. Evil Francie)
|
|
The Basics: Evolving from Project Christmas to Project Helix, Allison
was an unknown player before she killed Francie and
assumed her identity. She was put in place by Sloane and Sark after the
Alliance crumbled to maintain a connection to the Bristow circle. Her nefarious
deeds included several murders, down 'n' dirty surveillance tactics, and
(shudder) using a bouillabaisse recipe as a weapon. No wonder Syd had to
kill her.
Personal: Although Allison was romantically involved with Sark, it
seemed she couldn't entirely resist Will's charms. However, whatever feelings
she may have had for him didn't prevent her from mournfully stabbing him and
dumping him in the bathtub.
Work History: Allison was a Project Christmas kid, trained in the
spy trade before she ever hit middle school. She hooked up with Sark along
the way and was somehow convinced to pay a visit
to Dr. Markovic's "I Want to Look Like Ethan Hawke" lab. She assumed she would
return to her old self once her work was done, but the lab was destroyed.
Trivia: Allison had a literally hypnotic power over Will, so much so that
he never realized his formerly vivacious girlfriend had become dead-eyed and
robotic. She also had an unhealthy interest in watching Syd do crunches and...other
things. Her necktie gift to Vaughn supplemented the hidden camera in
Syd's bedroom, intended to eavesdrop on business-related talk during
more intimate moments (a plan which, sadly, worked).
